Whoopi Goldberg Asks John McCain Whether She Should be Worried About Being a Slave With His Interpretation of the Constitution

Well, John McCain seemed to have received a little more than he had bargained for when he appeared on “The View” this morning. The moment he sat down the drama began. I have to give Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg some props!

“I don’t see the old John McCain who used to buck the system as much, I understand why. You want to get elected,” said co-host Joy Behar. “I’m the same person that I always was,” McCain answered. She also accused McCain of spreading “lies” in his latest TV ads, one of which accused Barack Obama of smearing Palin by using the phrase “lipstick on a pig.”

Then Barbara Walters had to give her two cents: “You yourself used the same expression.” Amen! McCain used that expression last year to describe Hillary Clinton’s health care policies. She had earlier skeptically questioned how Palin would reform Washington.“How?” she pressed.

McCain asserted Palin was a “reform” governor of Alaska and cut spending, while Walters countered that she accepted earmarks. Hah! So she accepted less earmarks than her predecessor! An earmark is still an earmark!

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also questioned Palin’s faith, asking him if he believes in separation of church and state.“Sure,” McCain said. “So if you believe in the separation of church and state,” Goldberg followed up, “did it not give you a moment of pause that Sarah Palin, should God forbid anything happen to you, not have the same beliefs that you do about these things?” Alright Miss Whoopi!

Then she pounced again. She asked McCain about his strict interpretation of the Constitution. She went there! She added: “Should I be worried about being a slave and being returned to slavery? Because certain things happened in the Constitution that had to change.”“I understand your point,” McCain said.

We all know who Obama was refering to with his pig statement. The pause and the reaction from the crowd was enough to confirm it.

For a campaign that is supposed to ring us all together there is to much talk of racism and now Whoopi with the slavery comment.

The Democrats are bending over backwards to try and loose this election.

What Whoopie did was awesome and I found myself cheering.

@Pelmo…there is not enough talk about racism in this election. The problem is that we are only discussing racism in terms of its oppressive nature towards blacks and nothing is said about white privilege or other POC

Pelmo — I didn’t realize that you can read peoples’ minds. Didn’t John McCain use the exact comment to describe Hillary Clinton’s healthcare plan? You can’t selectively pick and choose how you parse Barack Obama’s comments. Whoopi was absolutely correct in her statement about slavery to John McCain. He’s bragging about returning issues back to the way they were framed in the Constitution. I think the Republicans are also playing very dirty and the racist comments and pictures are coming from factions that support their party.

Renee — You said it girl. I believe Whoopi was correct in her statement. Even John McCain had to acknowledge that as a fact.

You and I both know that Obama’s remark was intended for Palin as can be seen by the response of the audience.

But you condone comments about moose burgers and photos of Palin clad in a bikini armed with a rifle. Let’s not throw stones at the other side when your side is doing the same.

Pelmo — that bikini clad photo was doctored and I never mentioned that on my blog. The only thing I said about moose burgers was her comments about the Iraqi war and her essentially slapping John McCain in the face with one. Dude, Obama Waffles, Obama bin Laden? Whose side is doing more smearing?
