John Schnatter, Founder of Papa John’s International Pizza Chain, Says Customers Should Limit Themselves to One of Two Slices

Well, John Schnatter, the founder of Papa John’s pizza chain, laid it out for the world, possibly to the dismay of his shareholders. He offered unexpected advice to his customers to limit themselves to only one or two slices. As you are well aware, pizza does not have much health benefits — the cheese and the fatty toppings put the calorie count to the max.

During an interview on BBC’s Radio Four program in the United Kingdom, John Schnatter, said, “you can’t eat five or six slices.” He was responding to a question from presenter Adam Shaw about whether he was concerned about the impact of the British government’s anti-obesity drive on pizza sales.

“No. Pizza’s actually healthy for you if you don’t eat too much of it,” Schnatter replied, adding, “You can’t eat five or six slices but if you eat one or two slices it’s very nutritious.” The pizza chain boss had just finished telling BBC listeners that the UK market was a “huge priority for Papa John’s International.” Source: CNN

Schnatter is in the United Kingdom for the annual franchisee conference, a marketing tool to encourage more small business owners to buy into the Papa John’s brand. I seriously believe that his comments did not dissuade anyone from eating more than two slices of pizza. Americans have a love-hate relationship with pizza. As with anything, moderation is the key. Surely we didn’t need Mr. Schnatter to tell us not to gorge ourselves on pizza, or anything for that matter.
