Michelle Obama Has Slight Edge Over Cindy McCain in Favorability

While this is not such a big deal to many people, nonetheless, it is a very important issue to push in the face of Fox News and its cronies. You see, as much as Fox News has maligned Michelle Obama for her comments in recent months, it seems that Americans prefer her to Cindy “Barbie Doll” McCain, who keeps stealing people’s recipes. According to ABC News, in the battle of the spouses the early edge is Michelle Obama’s, in favorable views and intensity of sentiment alike. But there are sharp differences among groups, and plenty of room to move for the less well-known Cindy McCain.

A look at what people think of the two potential first ladies. Forty-eight percent of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll see Obama favorably, vs. 39 percent for McCain, a 9-point Obama advantage. Slightly more, though, also view Obama unfavorably – 29 percent vs. McCain’s 25 percent.

ABC News said that substantially more, 36 percent, haven’t yet formed an opinion of McCain, vs. 23 percent in Obama’s case. For both, those are sizable numbers who’ve yet to make a judgment. The popularity of presidential candidates’ spouses does not drive vote preferences. But in contests where every advantage can count, spouses do play a very public role. Cindy McCain is highlighting her support for children’s charities with a visit to Vietnam this week (let’s not forget she had sticky fingers when she dealt with another charity), while Michelle Obama hosts the ABC program “The View” on Wednesday.

Personally, I think that Cindy McCain is a smart woman, just like Michelle Obama. Both women are professionals a far cry from Barbara Bush, though Obama seems to be more outspoken that McCain. I am reminded of when Bill Clinton ran for the presidency and the right wing realized how career-minded and accomplished Hillary Clinton was. I guess they were threatened by an educated woman then and they still are now. Michelle Obama is a professional and educated black woman, but all we seem to hear about is that she is an angry black woman. Since when is being educated and outspoken a detriment to the presidency? As it has always been said, behind every good man, there is a good woman. This is the case with Barack and Michelle Obama. I am still trying to figure out what the hell Cindy McCain saw in John McCain, but I guess love is blind.
