Andrew Young Says Barack Obama Would be Good for America

I thought I heard the wrong thing, but apparently I was not mistaken. Former United Nations ambassador Andrew Young said Sunday that the world is angry with America, and if Senator Barack Obama is elected president, that image can change. At the same time, many Georgia GOP leaders said they think Senator McCain has made bold moves in the right direction.

Let’s see, the reason for my surprise was because Young was so adamant that Barack Obama was not “ready” to become the President of the United States. He was a loyal Clinton supporter when the primary season started, but he was also pulling for Obama, just couldn’t make up his mind. Now, Young plans to campaign for the Illinois senator on the campaign trail. The former Atlanta mayor said his original support for Clinton, whom he’s known since she was in her 20’s, was based on their personal relationship. Like many other Clinton supporters, Young has made the switch and shifted his support to Obama.”I gave Obama more money than I gave Hillary in the beginning because I wanted him to be able to run a campaign,” said Young. “I didn’t know he was capable of running a campaign that could capture the imagination of the country. He’s proved to me he can.”

Young said America’s image is tarnished around the world and that problem has played out in everything from international relations to gas prices.”Barack Obama’s elected and the stock market right now would jump 500 points. People are mad with America around the world and that’s hurting American business,” Young said. Did Young suddenly realize that people were mad recently or was he just playing it safe by backing Hillary Clinton in the beginning? Like the early supporters of Hillary Clinton who had to flip-flop later in the primary season, this is a big lesson. You cannot be beholden to a candidate before the process starts, you have to see what the opponent is worthy of and see how your constituents are voting. Don’t get me wrong folks, Andrew Young is a civil rights legend in his own rights and he has been a trailblazer in U.S. history, but like civil rights stalwart John Lewis, he got it wrong when he came out and vocally backed Hillary Clinton in the early stages, only to reverse course later on.
