Kwame Kilpatrick, Disgraced Former Detroit Mayor, Released from Wayne County Jail, Served 99 Days

Guess who got sprung this morning? Your favorite former mayor and former lawyer Kwame Kilpatrick. According to the Detroit Free Press, it was a little after 12:30 a.m. when Kilpatrick walked from the Wayne County Jail a short way down one of the grimmest streets in Detroit to a clean, dark Chevy Suburban with “Mr. Muhammad” written in small script on the back. Is he a Muslim now?

Kilpatrick was subdued and uncharacteristically quiet. He said nothing to the waiting news media. Willie Gary, a new Kilpatrick lawyer from Florida, stood in the doorway of the Andrew C. Baird Detention Center and made a short statement. “He wants to talk to everybody. At the proper time he will do that,” Gary said. “He wants to get home to his mom and his family.”Gary said Kilpatrick had lost about 25 pounds, and added, “I don’t think there’s any indication he’s changed his religion,” referring to rumors Kilpatrick had converted to Islam while he did his time. Kwame served 99 days, lost his job as mayor and his law license is in serious jeopardy? Why because lied under oath about cheating on his wife with jump-off Christine Beatty, who met a similar fate. Funny, the lawyer said Kilpatrick wanted to get home to his mom. What about his wife or did she get sprung from the marriage herself? Seems like he is going home to another few days of living hell. Hmmm. Interesting.
