Baby Michael Justin Sanz Loses Battle, After Being Delivered from Dying Mother Donnette Sanz’ Womb after Accident

It was not supposed to end this way, but a miracle baby, delivered from the womb of his dying mother, has himself succumbed. Baby Michael Justin Sanz, his mother, pregnant NYPD traffic agent Donnette Sanz, 33, was mortally injured there Aug. 14 after being hit by a van and crushed under a 10,000-pound school bus. The baby clung to life for a week. He bucked the odds and fought to survive, giving his mourning father, Rafael Sanz, a glimmer of hope for the future. On Friday, this precious baby lost his courageous fight and was removed from a respirator.

This young family’s life was horribly changed by ex-convict, 72-year old Walter Walker, who has been charged with criminally negligent homicide. I hope he rots in prison. But I must ask this question? Why was this man still driving on the streets of New York City? Well, I searched around for some information and found this (according to the NY Daily News):

  • His history of recklessness dates back to at least 1986, when he fired a gun on a Harlem street for no apparent reason, according to court records. Police sources said that, when he got caught, he tried to stash the weapon in the clothes of an 8-month-old baby.
  • Walker was busted again in 1993 when he and two buddies tried to scam a 62-year-old woman out of $9,000 worth of savings in an investment scheme, police sources said.
  • He was arrested on charges of grand larceny and possession of stolen property but pleaded guilty to a lesser count of fraudulent accosting. In March 1993, was sentenced to five days’ community service.
  • Walker was in trouble again in 2003 when he threatened to bash a neighbor in the head with an aluminum baseball bat. He chased the man up and down W. 139th St. until cops arrested him on charges of menacing and harassment.
  • Again he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge – disorderly conduct – and was told it would be dismissed if he didn’t get into trouble and attended an anger management class, sources said. It was unclear if he ever did.
  • He has driven without a legitimate license since 1989, when he got his first of two dozen suspensions, essentially ignoring traffic laws.
  • He was arrested in August 1999, when he was caught in a traffic checkpoint driving without a license. He was busted again for the same thing in 2005 and convicted in 2006.

Wow, that was a laundry list of reasons why this man should have been taken off the streets and thrown in prison a long time ago. What is insulting to the Sanz family is that Walker now blames the accident on bad breaks, said defense attorney Michael Torres. “My client is absolutely remorseful. He said he tried to repair the brakes,” Torres said in court. Remorseful? I hope this time around he will be thrown in prison for the rest of his life. What a reckless person this man is.

As you will recall, dozens of passersby lifted the bus so she could be rushed to the hospital – where doctors delivered her baby two months premature. His father said he believed his son would pull through and gushed about the newborn like any other proud father, though his pride was tinged with sadness. Sanz did not want to talk about the medical setbacks that claimed the infant’s life Friday, but he vented his rage at the ex-con who caused the accident. “I hope the driver dies a horrible death,” he said of Walter Walker. I hope the district attorney will add more charges once the autopsy report comes in on the baby’s death. What a sad story! Innocent lives lost due to a selfish and irresponsible man.
